Guest speaker is in person this evening. \nLocal Plant Materials in Basketry\nAnn McGinity will be joining us for a talk on using local plant materials to make art baskets.  Her knowledge and expertise in using local materials from her travels are always an adventure to hear.  From the artist: “My first baskets were woven with natural materials\, gathered at the Oregon coast\, or in the protected forests. A group of us kept each other informed of when and where there were materials to be gathered\, and techniques for many resources\, including cedar\, cherry bark\, spruce root\, kelp\, sedge\, willow\, and others. So many opportunities for developing style and technique came from gatherings and workshops within this group. \nNext came time and space to develop dyeing and color with commercial materials\, using both natural ingredients and commercial products\, often paired with open weaves and undulating shapes. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Christmas Party! \nWe will get together for our Holiday party.  Bring a treat to share and a project to work on.  We will have a $15 homemade gift exchange.  If you want to bring a yarn or craft themed purchased gift that is fine also\, there are not a lot of rules! We are also having a fun activity instead of games this year.  \n6:00 Social and Library \n6:30 Business meeting  Zoom available for Business meeting only. No guest speaker this evening. \n7:30 Christmas Program \nAll meetings are open to the public.  Bring a guest to share the fun. \n \nMake a MAGIC CAKE\nJoin us for stash busting fun.  Do you have yards of fingering yarn that are just sitting in a basket waiting for you to make something “someday?”  I have ideas!  My favorite scarf I made was out of other people’s scraps.   \nTo Participate:  Bring about 10 balls (Or more) of fingering weight wool (superwash or regular). The balls should be about 10 grams each.  You can bring a whole skein if you want and just break it down into smaller balls.  You will learn Russian joins.  If you have a ball winder\, please bring it. We will play with color\, contrast and most importantly\, have some fun with each other’s cast offs.  Tricia will bring patterns to inspire you.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for social time and community from 6:00-6:30 PM. \nBusiness meeting 6:30 to 7:00 PM. \nProgram at 7 PM. Mixed Media Artist Lisa Hinrich will share her work with us in person. Lisa Hinrichs is a fiber and mixed media artist living in St. Louis\, MIssouri.  She has mastered felt making\, dye techniques\, painting and other fiber processes\, studying with some of the most talented teachers in the field over many years.  Her work is exhibited locally and nationally and has been included in various Fiber Art publications. Lisa holds a BS in Housing and Interior Design from the University of Missouri-Columbia and later studied Graphic Design at SLCC. While she has moved on from earlier careers in architecture and graphic design\, her love of a well designed structure or elegantly composed page find their way into her current work. SUMMARY:Nancy Elliott to present at Creative Mornings
DESCRIPTION:Our own Nancy Elliott was invited to speak at Creative Mornings.  This is a collection of creative people here in Columbia.  She is excited to share more about her craft. \nNancy Link Elliott has been an active member of the Columbia Weavers and Spinners’ Guild since 2010. \nOver the years\, she has served as a study group coordinator\, vice-president\, and president. Currently\, she volunteers as the marketing coordinator for the Guild’s Holiday Exhibition and Sale. \nNow retired\, Nancy dedicates much of her creative energy to fiber arts and bookmaking\, selling her creations at the Guild sale and Bluestem. \nShe studied art and biology in college and has had a diverse career encompassing lab work\, teaching\, nonprofit management\, and administrative support. \nOriginally from the outskirts of Chicago\, Nancy has lived across the US and spent a year in Tanzania.
