Guest speaker is in person this evening. \nLocal Plant Materials in Basketry\nAnn McGinity will be joining us for a talk on using local plant materials to make art baskets.  Her knowledge and expertise in using local materials from her travels are always an adventure to hear.  From the artist: “My first baskets were woven with natural materials\, gathered at the Oregon coast\, or in the protected forests. A group of us kept each other informed of when and where there were materials to be gathered\, and techniques for many resources\, including cedar\, cherry bark\, spruce root\, kelp\, sedge\, willow\, and others. So many opportunities for developing style and technique came from gatherings and workshops within this group. \nNext came time and space to develop dyeing and color with commercial materials\, using both natural ingredients and commercial products\, often paired with open weaves and undulating shapes.
