Monthly Program Guide for CWSG 2026-2027
The Columbia Weavers and Spinners’ Guild meets at 6:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month, with social and community time. The business meeting and program will follow.
Meetings are held at the Bethel Baptist Church, 201 E Old Plank Rd, Columbia, MO 65203. The Columbia Weavers and Spinners’ Guild always welcomes guests to its meetings. Business meetings will be on Zoom this year, with show and tell immediately following. Guild programs will be in-person, unless Zoom is planned in advance for that speaker.

September 15: The first Guild meeting of the year. Kick off of the Guild Challenge. Business meeting, updates by the Study Group leaders and Committee chairs, and the What I Did on Summer Vacation show and tell.
October 20: Marcy Patrini “Twills and Color Interactions”
Twills produce wonderful drapeable cloth, but we can also manipulate the twill lines with colors to obtain fabrics from shimmering to quietly elegant. We will review twills and their will lines; then we will discuss how our brain perceives colors and how all color effects are derived from that perception. November 17: Robyn Spady “4 Shafts Aren’t Complex? Au Contraire!”
Who says weaving on four-shaft looms can’t be complex? Too many people! In fact, four-shaft looms are capable of much more than many weavers realize. Tapping into the potential of four-shafts helps weavers learn how to maximize undervalued looms and better understand how to exploit the capabilities of looms with more shafts. From turned swivel to integrated double weaves to finding the “fashionable” ways to weave a warp, this is an opportunity for participants to see just how amazing a four-shaft loom can be. December 15: Holiday Gift Exchange and Potluck.
Please join us for a potluck of sweets and treats. If you bring something to share also include the recipe or list of ingredients for those that have food allergies or sensitivities. The gift exchange is optional but if you choose to participate bring a wrapped handmade item of approximately $15 value.
January 19: Emily Hemeyer “Mushroom Dying” Emily’s presentation will explore the history of fungi dyes, dying methods, mushroom identification, and citizen science experiments that she conducted through her graduate research.The presentation is designed for beginners and is especially relevant for fiber artists, as there is a rich and fascination connection between the modern study of fungi dyes and fiber arts.
February 16: Darcy Holtgrave “Color Courage”
Darcy will be discussing how to understand our own favorite palettes and then step out of our comfort zones to try new color combinations.
March 16: Marina Cano “Loom and Wheel Ergonomics and Maintenance” Marina will be discussing ergonomics for sitting comfortably at a loom and spinning wheel and what things to think about when purchasing them. She will also touch on how to maintain your looms and wheels to keep them in tip top shape.
April 20: Jessica Grady “Journey into the Unconventional”
This talk covers Jessica’s pathway into textiles and includes her experience within both commercial textile design and starting her own artist business and the methods and techniques she uses within her work. She lives in the UK and creates beautiful pieces using zero waste materials with hand embroidery. For more information on this artist please refer to jessicagrady.co.uk
