The Columbia Weavers and Spinners’ Guild meets at 6:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month, September through May. In June, a combination meeting/potluck is arranged. There are no meetings in July and August. Except as noted, meetings are held at the Broadway Christian Church, 2601 W. Broadway. April and June meetings will be held at the Rock Quarry House at Rock Quarry Park.

September 18 — The Things We Did Last Summer
What did you do this summer? Travel? Spend time on your favorite fiber activity? Bring your summer projects to the September meeting for a show and tell of the things we did this last summer.

October 16 — A Certain Shade of Green
How do you decide what colors to ply together? To dye a silk scarf? To use in a beaded bracelet? To paint a warp? To incorporate into a basket? To weave? No matter what your fiber fix, color is something that confounds all of us at one time or another. In the DVD “A Fiber Artist’s Guide to Color,” Laura Bryant brings a few basic concepts to life in a way that can change how you see. We’ll watch part of the video, then Jenny Chicone will lead a hands-on activity.

November 20 — Weaving a Bench
New member Pam Haverland has taken two workshops with Walt Turpening of Kingsport, Tennessee. Walt is known for his woven benches and chairs and has developed his weaving technique and cording specifics over decades. Pam will share her experience and show us her finished products.

December 18 — Happy Holidays
Celebrate the season and share your favorite
holiday finger food with fiber friends at our annual party and gift exchange.

January 15 — All Fur Coat – No Knickers
The Role of Clothes and Fashion Conformity in Dominance, Power and Cultural Identity – Retired Stephens College professor and guild member Patti Doyle shares some of her research on the role of clothes in our society.

February 19 — My Little Loom
What is not to like about little looms? They are fun, portable, and can be used to produce a wide range of items from purses and bags to bands, scarves, kitchen towels, runners, wall art and much, much more. This hands-on program will feature a variety of little looms for you to try: tapestry, pin, rigid heddle, continuous strand, inkle, tablet and more.

March 19 — Take it to the Limit
How do we grow as fiber artists? What pushes us to the next level? Do mistakes sometimes lead to unanticipated growth? Members will share examples and experiences that took their fiber art in an unexpected direction.

April 16 — My Journey Through the World of Eco-Printing
Fiber and mixed media artist Suzy Farren will share images and experiences of her journey through the world of eco-printing. Participants in her workshop will also unwrap their final scarves and paper during the program. Note: April meeting will be held at the Rock Quarry House at Rock Quarry Park.

May 21 — On the Road Again : Fiber Hot Spots for Summer Travel
Did you know Weston, Missouri is home to the National Silk Art Museum? Or that we have a state park near Kansas City devoted to interpreting an early woolen mill? These and other fiber hot spots will be highlighted. Summer field trip anyone?

June 18 — Picnic in the Summertime
It’s time for the annual guild picnic, a time for food, fellowship and the installation of officers. Note: June picnic will be held at the Rock Quarry House at Rock Quarry Park.
